When to Announce Your Pregnancy
Whether you planned your pregnancy and you want to shout it from the rooftops, or it’s a total surprise you are not at all prepared or excited for, you will eventually have to tell people. So when is the best time to share the big news? Well, it’s your pregnancy. You can tell people whenever you want! You may want to have a conversation with your partner first to make sure they are on the same page.
THE EXCITEMENT OF WANTING TO SHARE
Pregnancy can be a really exciting moment for some new parents and that is great! After all, you are bringing a new human being into this world that you created. Some parents decide they want to wait and share, and for good reason.
WHY PEOPLE WAIT TO SHARE
One in four women miscarry in pregnancy. 80% of those happen in the first trimester. The first doctors appointment is usually around 8 weeks because that is when they will most likely be able to hear a heartbeat. The risk of miscarriage after hearing a heartbeat decreases to 10%.That is a big scary number. The risk of sharing the news of a pregnancy and then losing the baby can be just too much for someone to handle. Especially for someone who has already experienced the loss of an unborn baby. It is common for people to wait until after a first appointment, genetic screenings, or an ultrasound to disclose their pregnancy. There is usually more certainty for good news this way.
Some partners want to have something that is special and secret just between them for a while before letting the world in. Making a baby is already an intimate affair between two people and so is having that bond with their new little embryo, just the two of them.
CLEVER WAYS TO SHARE THE NEWS
With the existence of Pinterest, there are a plethora of fun ways to tell people. Some are sweet while others are funny. Between gifting your parents a “I’m going to be a grandma/pa” t-shirt and posed pictures of the pregnant person eating a pile of food, to dogs with signs that say “my parents are getting me a human,” The possibilities are endless. (P.S. there is a whole page on my Pinterest dedicated to pregnancy announcement ideas).
